It's 2:10 in the morning over here while I write this so excuse any mess-ups. I arrived at Copenhagen Airport earlier than expected so I got to wait and watch people for a while. A really cool social worker came over and talked to me and started off by saying "you're an American right?" He had picked me out of the crowd lol. He let me use his cell phone to call my ride. It was no use though because my dad and Henriette had already arrived to pick me up. My dad, was actually leaving for Chattanooga on the same day I arrived here, so we had to say quick goodbyes and off he went. I ate a little bit at Henriette's house and then got a 2-hour train ride to Veijle. Dan, another SM working at the school, was there, soon thereafter, to pick me up. I'll skip some of the deeper details but I am feeling really comfortable around here. The Danish locals that go to school here are beyond nice and I've already made lots of friends. They amaze me. They'll just come up to you out of nowhere and ask you where you're from, what you're name and so on. None of this uncomfortable ignoring that is so ingrained into western culture. The staff here are so great as well. They accepted me right away and I feel like I'm family already. It's a really relaxed atmosphere. We had a nice indoor soccer (from now on considered football, since it is the REAL football) tournament and it was crazy and showed me how out of shape I am. Oh well, I'll be back in shape in no time.
A kid here from 8th grade called Frederik (the one hiding behind the girl in the video below) is teaching me my Danish basics and he's a great teacher, and a great kid, along with some of the uber-crazy girls that are going here. Energy to the hilt! This video has a mixture of SM's and kids/students.
Anyway, I'll take and post some pics of the staff, kids, and surroundings after I get up sometime tomorrow (who knows when).
